Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of marriage perception in marriage readiness among unmarried emerging adults in DKI Jakarta. This study used a quantitative approach with a population of 2,098,685 unmarried emerging adults who live in DKI Jakarta, and a sample of 270 respondents aged 18–40 years. The sampling technique used was convenience sampling. Data were collected using the Marriage Perception scale based on Rakhmat's (2007) theory and the measurement instrument used by Pratiwi (2018), as well as the Marriage Readiness Questionnaire (MRQ) developed by Carroll et al. (2009) and adapted by Anindita et al. (2024) to measure Marriage Readiness, which was distributed through Google Forms. The data were analyzed using simple linear regression. The results showed that there was a significant role of marriage perception in marriage readiness, with a significance value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). The regression coefficient B = 0.288 showed a positive direction, which means that the more positive an individual's perception of marriage is, the higher their marriage readiness. On the other hand, the more negative an individual's perception of marriage is, the lower their marriage readiness tends to be. The R Square value of 0.344 showed that marriage perception contributed 34.4% to marriage readiness. Therefore, the research hypothesis was accepted, namely that there was a positive and significant role of marriage perception in marriage readiness among unmarried emerging adults in DKI Jakarta.
